Fried rice is a dish made with cooked rice, vegetables, meat or fish, and a beaten egg. Traditionally made in a very hot wok, fried rice is a staple at Chinese restaurants.

Fried rice, which is made by frying cooked rice in oil, is also the perfect way to use up leftovers. With a container of takeout rice, an egg, some scallions, that last piece of bacon, and a few mushrooms, you can make a delicious meal. The origins of fried rice go back 1,400 years, to China's Sui dynasty. Today, it's especially popular in East and Southeast Asian countries, and is one of Indonesia's national dishes.
